Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS)

IntaChange must run on a “web server” running Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS). This is not a download, it is supplied with your installed version of Windows, on the Windows CD. You must ensure this is installed and working prior to installing IntaChange. It may already be on the PC, or it can be installed from Control Panel, Programs and Features, Turn Windows features on or off.

The installation document, IntaChange Installation.pdf, is at the top-level of the unzipped folder. In addition to the instructions in there explaining that IIS must be installed, we have encountered the following issue in some installations.

On some systems where IIS (Internet Information Services) version 7 onward is installed, the IIS 6 Management Compatibility Tools are not installed. These are required for the Microsoft-generated web application installer used. It is strongly recommended that this be installed BEFORE proceeding with this installation, as failure to do so may cause “Installation Incomplete” or “The installer was interrupted” errors. Proceed as follows:

  1. Control Panel, Programs and Features.
  2. Click Turn Windows features on or off in the left-hand pane.
    1. 2008 Server: A Server Managerwindow appears.
      1. Select Roles, Web Server (IIS) in the left-hand pane.
      2. Click Add Role Services in the right-hand pane (scroll down)
      3. Expand Management Tools.
    2. Vista/Windows 7: A Windows Featureswindow appears.
      1. Expand Internet Information Services.
      2. Expand Web Management Tools.
  3. Check the item IIS 6 Management Compatibility. (Or at minimum the item IIS 6 Metabase Compatibility within that.)
  4. Proceed to install (may take a while, may require reboot).

The IIS 6 Management Compatibility is only actually required for the installation. You could remove this feature afterward, though it does no harm to leave it installed (it does not turn your IIS 7 into IIS 6, rather merely allows it to respond to IIS 6 management calls).

IntaChange Enterprise

ICE 7.1.1

ICE_7.1.1_Full.zip (140MB): Full version of IntaChange Enterprise, including required supporting products.  Required for new installations, and for upgrades from version 4.x or earlier, see below.

ICE_7.1.1.zip (31.8MB): Just IntaChange Enterprise itself, no supporting products, should normally be adequate for sites upgrading – but not from version 4.x or earlier, see below.

The additional items contained in the “Full” version only are:

  • Crystal Reports Redistributables (32-bit & 64-bit).
  • .NET Framework Setup Installer.
  • SQL (2008 R2) Express.

If you are upgrading from an earlier version of ICE (e.g. 5.0), or if you have .NET and some version of your own SQL Server (2008 R2 or later) already installed, you should normally be able to use just the smaller download. Otherwise, or if you are not sure, please download the “Full” version.

However, anyone upgrading from version 4.x or earlier must download the “Full” version, as a one-time-only “full” upgrade.  This is required because from version 5.0 ICE now uses a different version of Crystal Reports from before.  Previously, the Crystal Reports component was “bundled” inside the ICE component.  Now the Crystal Reports has its own standalone installation files (32- & 64-bit), which are included in the “Full” download.  Once the new Crystal Reports component(s) has been installed, it will appear with its own installation entry in Program and Features.  From then on it will not be uninstalled if you apply any upgrades, and will not need downloading/installing again.
